Research: “Targeting inositol signaling in primary cilia to treat glaucoma”
Research
Targeting inositol signaling in primary cilia to treat glaucomaOur laboratory is interested in understanding the role of inositol signaling in primary cilia and eye diseases. Mutations in inositol phosphatases can cause cataract, glaucoma, and retinal degeneration. These enzymes play critical roles in vesicular trafficking, cell polarity, and signal transduction. Using a novel ontogenetic approach, we hope to advance the basic understanding of inositol phosphate metabolism and primary cilia in ocular tissues. Our long-term goal is develop new drugs that can target this pathway to treat glaucomatous optic neuropathy.
